Five girls in Afghanistan, aged between 14 and 17 have been joined together to fight against coronavirus, by designing the cheapest ventilator ever. The team was named as Afgan Dreamers, they have delivered a valuable project once comparing to other teams in the International Robotic competition.

It was a passion project for Ms. Mahboob, serial entrepreneur who became one of Afghanistan Chief executives at 23 , established a non-profit organization to help young women to build and design digital literacy, and has been named as one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people.

Participants have been selected for the Dreamers project based on their performance in the entrance exam for the 9th and 10th grades, so the good one gets to be placed to the National Afghan Girls Robotic Team For International Competitions.

In 2017, the national team made international headlines, when their US visas were rejected and they were about to travel to International Robotic Competition in Washington, DC. After individual appeals to the US embassy in Kabul failed. The group took to the social media to air their grievances.

Later on the team received international attention, and led to US President Donald Trump intervening on their behalf.

The Afghan Girls Robotic Team returned from that competition with Silver metal reward for ” courageous achievement. In addition to that they have started a new project to distinguish between contaminated (impure) water and clean ( pure) water when they returned to their homes. The Girls not only heroes or inventors,  but they have introduced a strong message to inspire and motivate the Girls who are willing to continue their education and change the impossible to possible.

Ms. Mahboob adds,” I work with the girls, but mostly to co-ordinate. They are the real heroes “.

Ms. Mahboob splits her time between New York Kabul. She is currently in Afganistan,  initially to oversee the brite conference ( Building Resilience Through Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship).

Other team members in the Afgan’s Dreamers, have been worked in a big project too, after all. One team was developing a device to help the formers with saffron picking. Another was developing a drone to work with and to be used in the mining sector.

Currently they are working with two prototypes. One is a greater based system based on a design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US. The other uses parts from Toyota Corolla.

Although,  it is difficult for the girls to be gathered or met in one place, but Afgan’s Girls Dreamers have been stood together to explore their knowledge by innovating for the world a useful and helpful products.
